Taipei (Reuters) – Foxconn reported a record quarterly turnover on Saturday thanks to a high demand for artificial intelligence (IA) products, but the Taiwanese group said it was vigilant about the evolution of political and economic conditions in the world.
The turnover of the first global subcontractor for electronics, which notably assembles Apple iPhone, jumped 24.2% over a year, to 1.640 billion Taiwanese dollars ($ 49.5 billion or 45.16 billion euros), can be read in a press release published by the group.
This record figure is however slightly below the consensus LSEG Smartestimate which was 1.680 billion Taiwanese dollars.
The high demand for AI has led to strong growth in the turnover of the product division intended for “cloud” (dematerialized IT) and the networks, writes Foxconn, who also counts among his clients the manufacturer of NVIDIA chips.
For the so -called intelligent public electronic division, which includes iPhone, growth has “stagnated” in annual rhythm, said Foxconn.
The turnover of March increased 23.4% in annual shift to 552.1 billion Taiwanese dollars, a record for a month of March.
Foxconn said he anticipated growth for the current quarter compared to the previous three months and the same period last year.
“The impact of the evolution of global political and economic conditions must be the subject of close and continuous monitoring,” warned the group, however, without further details.
President Donald Trump announced additional 34% customs duties on Wednesday evening on products from China, bringing the total of the new American surcharge decided since the start of the year to 54%. The Chinese city of Zhengzhou, in the Chinese province of Henan, is home to the largest iPhone manufacturing plant in the world. It is operated by Foxconn.
Donald Trump also imposed 32% customs duties in Taiwan, even if most Foxconn factories are located abroad.
Foxconn, whose official name is Hon Hai Precision Industry, will publish its complete results of the first quarter on May 14.
