Berlin (Reuters) – The German economic institutes lowered their growth forecasts to 0.1% for this year against 0.8% expected in September, two sources in Reuters said on Tuesday.

These new forecasts, which take into account American customs duties of 25% on aluminum, steel and European cars, do not include 20% surcharge announced last week by the Trump administration for all imported products from the European Union (EU).

For 2026, the German institutes predict economic growth slightly greater than 1.0%, the sources said without giving precise figures. The previous forecast for next year was 1.3%.

Germany is the only economy in the G7 not to have experienced economic expansion in the past two years.

The forecasts of the economic institutes, which are integrated by the Ministry of the Economy for its own forecasts, will be officially published on Thursday.
