Paris (Reuters) – The standardization of the monetary policy of the European Central Bank (ECB) is “probably not at its end,” said the governor of the Banque de France on Tuesday, François Villeroy de Galhau.
The Frankfurt Institute began a drop in its key rates last June, which brought the deposit rate to 2.25% after a record at 4%.
“This normalization is undoubtedly not at its end,” said François Villeroy de Galhau, during a speech on the occasion of the presentation of the annual report of the Prudential Control and Resolution Authority (ACPR).
“We could see him during our council of governors next week,” he added, evoking the next BCE monetary policy meeting scheduled for June 5.
“The first French inflation figure on May, published just this morning at the low level of 0.6%, is still a very encouraging sign, from disinflation in action,” continued François Villeroy de Galhau.
Inflation in France fell in May at its lowest level since December 2020, driven by a more marked drop in energy prices and a slowdown in services.
