(BFM Stock Exchange) – The Airbus title increased by 3.7% at the end of the morning this Wednesday, June 4 and increased more than 6% in two days. Press information reports reassuring deliveries for the month of May while China could place an order for hundreds of planes for the company, according to Bloomberg.
The results season is now completed and the Bourget show will only start in two weeks. This does not prevent the Airbus action from displaying a sparkling form.
The title of the aeronautics and defense group won 3.7% at the end of the morning this Wednesday, June 4, signing the second highest increase in CAC 40. Over two days, the action climbs about 6%.
According to an analyst, two explanations can justify this mini-stock market. First, Airbus should publish reassuring deliveries for the month of May. The group will officially communicate its figures by the end of the week.
But Reuters, on the basis of industrial sources, reported on Tuesday that the company had delivered 51 aircraft over the fifth month of the year, down 4% over a year. For its part, the Cirium cabinet is rather around 49 units. Contacted by News Bulletin 247, Airbus did not wish to comment on this information.

It will be necessary to go
These figures are not fantastic. But “there were concerns on the part of investors at the beginning of the month, some going so far as to fear that we fall around 30-35 deliveries in May, when we know that we must always wait for the end of the month with Airbus, who tends to finish strong,” explains the previously mentioned analyst. “Admittedly, they will have to whip in June, a good month generally, and probably arrive around 70 deliveries, so as not to be too late. But it’s reassuring,” he adds.
In addition, in a comment written in reaction to Reuters’s information, Jefferies says it is reassured by the level of production of “gliders” (gliders). These are planes whose production is completed but which, for lack of engines, cannot be shipped to the customer. Airbus produces gliders when the group faces difficulties in supplying engines to its suppliers, such as Pratt & Whitney or CFM International (the Contreprise Safran/GE Aero).
Jefferies notes that these gliders are estimated around 20 to 25 units for the second quarter, which means that the total production of Airbus has increased by 6% to 8% since January 1, figures that the bank deems “reassuring”.
Recall that Airbus deliveries are still fiercely followed by the market because most of the payment of an aircraft occurs when it is received by the customer. In other words, the evolution of Airbus deliveries give a good indication of the group’s cash prospects for the year.
Airbus will deliver around 820 planes this year. On the basis of 51 planes in May, the company would have delivered over the first five months of the year 243 aircraft. In other words, he would have to arrive at an average figure of more than 80 planes per month on the rest of the year to keep his goals. However, the aircraft manufacturer is used to ending up. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the company had delivered 269 aircraft, or 90 per month on average.
Chinese mega-command in sight
The other source of explanation of the rise of Airbus on the stock market this Wednesday comes from press information reporting a potential a mega-command. The Bloomberg agency mentions a contract ranging from 200 to 500 aircraft from China to the European aircraft manufacturer and which could be announced during the celebration of the fifty years of diplomatic relationship between China and the European Union.
The agency explains that the big carriers could carve out the lion’s share in this order. Airbus also did not wish to comment on these declarations. “Given the current levels of the order book and the emphasis placed on the execution (of production, editor’s note), orders tend to no longer have as much importance as before for Airbus,” recalls Jefferies.
“However, we point out that China was already about to place an order of more than 100 A330neo before the aeronautical show in Farnborough last year, which did not materialize. If this order is materialized, it could give rise to the payment of a solid deposit, because China tends to place its orders within shorter times than the airlines” the financial intermediary.
“The order of 292 A320neo placed by China in July 2022 was therefore accompanied by a high level of deposit, which stimulated the performance of the free cash flow in the third quarter”, recalls Jefferies as an example.
“If the Chinese command relates to A330neo and if it is confirmed that Boeing is not in the equation, it will be a slap for Boeing”, judges the anonymous analyst previously quoted, who considers that the information remains “positive” for Action Airbus. “Airbus has less visibility on the A330 NEO, the order book ensuring five to six years of production against more than ten years for the A320 NEO family,” he added.
