(Reuters) – Brussels negotiators hope that by offering in the United States to accept a customs tariff of 10% on all European Union exports (EU), they will be able to avoid the establishment of higher customs duties on products such as cars, drugs and electronics, reports the German economic daily Handelsblatt on Monday.

Citing high -ranking European negotiators, the newspaper indicates that the offer made to American negotiators would only be presented under certain conditions and would not be considered permanent.

Handelsblatt adds that the EU is, in return, ready to reduce its customs duties on vehicles manufactured in the United States, and possibly modify certain technical or legal obstacles in order to facilitate the sale of American cars in Europe.

The EU also proposes to ban purchases of Russian natural gas, which could increase demand for American producers.

The European Commission did not immediately respond to a comment request.
