(Reuters) – Tesla said Wednesday that it had started production of a less expensive car model, while the manufacturer of electric vehicles reported a decrease of 12% – unprecedented for ten years – of its quarterly turnover in a context of increased competition and protest against the political positions of its boss Elon Musk.
The group did not communicate a forecast for its annual deliveries, after having withdrawn it in April, citing economic concerns.
Over the June-June period, Tesla’s turnover established $ 22.5 billion, compared to $ 25.5 billion a year earlier. Analysts anticipated an average of 22.74 billion dollars on average, according to LSEG data.
It is the second consecutive quarter of decline in its turnover, despite the sale of a new long -awaited version of its Y model, which investors considered as likely to revive demand.
Tesla said he had started production of a first batch of low -cost vehicles in June, adding that he expected production volumes during the second half of the year.
Analysts are now betting that the new less expensive model will boost sales.
No details were given on Wednesday by Tesla on the configuration of this new vehicle or on the number of units that have already been produced.
A large part of the technological giant’s stock market valuation is based in particular on its bet to deploy Robotaxis, a small -scale test of which was launched last month in Austin in Texas.
Concerns remain among the investors about Elon Musk’s ability to pay all his attention to Tesla, the richest man in the world who announced earlier this month the creation of a new political party in the wake of his quarrel with American President Donald Trump.
Elon Musk, a time advisor to Donald Trump in the White House, had previously promised that he would get less into politics and focus on his businesses.
The departures of several tesla executives, including that of a confidant from Elon Musk who supervised sales and production in North America and Europe, have fed the concern of investors.
