(Reuters) – Totalenergies, associated with RWE, announced on Wednesday that it has won, as an operator, the electric tender at sea “Center Manche 2” to design, develop, build and exploit a wind farm with a power of 1.5 Gigawatt (GW), off Normandy.

“The project will represent an overall investment of around 4.5 billion euros, the largest carried out by Totalenergies in France for 30 years”, according to a press release from the group, which adds that it has made commitments in terms of jobs in France.

“Up to 2,500 people will be (…) used during the three years of construction”, specifies Totalenergies, who also says he wants to “mobilize the local economic fabric”.

The project, once built, “will produce around 6 Térawatt-Hour (TWH) per year and will supply green electricity the equivalent of more than a million French households”, according to the press release.

Totalnergies will continue the necessary studies in order to make the final investment decision in early 2029, the production of electricity having to start in 2033, in line with the RTE connection calendar.

In addition, the French oil and gas group specifies that RWE has expressed its wish to leave the consortium, subject to the agreement of the French authorities.

Totalnergies will, however, continue the project and assume all the commitments of the consortium, according to the press release. The group will also propose to bring in a new partner.
