The release of 44 people was carried out by the forces of the Fire Service who rushed to the building of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Crafts (BETH).

According to newer information, six people have been admitted to Papanikolaou hospital. Four with mild respiratory problems, and two intubated. Three other people have been admitted to Agios Dimitrios Hospital with mild respiratory problems.

Immediately after the firefighting operation, the Lieutenant General and Coordinator of the Operational Center of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Marios Apostolidis, announced that “We released 44 people, including children who were in the adjacent tutoring center.”

He added: “We had information that these were trapped people and we immediately alerted a large force, 12 vehicles with 40 men between them two special vehicles, so that we could release, if necessary, people from the balconies.”

“We surrounded on three sides the building in which the fire broke out, which in the end was not in the office building, it was next door which was abandoned and with garbage inside. From there, the fire probably started and a large thermal load was created, which is why there was intense smoke that could be seen from afar. The fire did not spread to the next building “.

According to the policeman, Alexandros Sfeliniotis and the policemen first helped to regulate the traffic and to facilitate the work of the Fire Brigade, while later they helped in the release and at the same time they gave information that they had information to the men of the Fire Brigade who were operating at the spot.

EKAB ambulances were also found at the scene, with rescuers providing First Aid to anyone with respiratory problems.
