Daily Athens Health Summit 2021 – N. Christakis: The next day after the pandemic, it will be like after the war

People think that what we did as governments and health authorities was the cause that led the economy to disaster. This is not really the case, the virus itself is the problem.

This was pointed out, referring to the coronavirus, by Nikolas A. Christakis, Professor of Sterling, Social and Natural Sciences, Yale University, Director of the Laboratory of Human Nature, Co-Director of the Yale Institute for Network Science, at the University Summits – Health.

It happens that we live in a new unprecedented situation, with a new pathogen that has started to circulate and will continue to circulate, Mr. Christakis noted at the beginning of his speech. “This virus is a new species ready to conquer the world,” he said.

“We know a lot about this pathogen and we see that it is a virus that infects even the vaccinated and that is why we conclude that it is an endemic species. “We know that it kills 1% of the people it infects, that is, it is a very serious virus,” he said.

“We now know a lot about this virus, but the interesting thing is that there are some critical parameters that were already known to us from February 2020,” he added.

As Mr. Christakis points out, we think we are living in a crazy era, however, as he emphasizes, we see that these things have been repeated and are things that have passed into our tradition, referring to the issue of the economy.

“People think that what we did was the cause of the disaster. “In reality this is not the case, the virus itself is the problem,” he said.

These things have been repeated, it is not unprecedented. The virus so far has cost 16 trillion. dollars, the impact passes and the impact of the Great Recession, he said.
According to Mr. Christakis, herd immunity will come by 2024. “Many will suffer from mourning, children will have lost school, people will be unemployed.”

For the next day after the pandemic, Mr. Christakis said that it will be like after the war, people will be happy, they will be able to return to normal life, we will see a release, even a sexual one.
