Horror story with a hound in Volos – Dead for 10 days in his house

by

His lifeless body remained chained. Immediate intervention by the Volos Prosecutor’s Office.

A case of horror with the abuse of a dominant dog resulting in his death has been of concern to Justice for the last few days. The Volos Prosecutor’s Office is handling a case concerning a hound that died due to the miserable living conditions reserved by the brainless owner of the dog in the desert alive.

The unfortunate quadruped was found dead in the field of its owner, which is located in a wider area of Volos a few days ago and specifically last Tuesday. He was dead in his house for ten whole days, but he remained tied up!

The image of the dead dog in his small house that barely fit him, without water or food, with his head just sticking out of it and not covered by a speck of shady space, was so sad for the slow, torturous and unjust death which had, which even the relatives of the owner of the animal reacted, with the case taking the path of Justice.

The body of the dog, a cute hound, until the former guard of the field, was in a state of decomposition, but his lifeless body remained chained there for almost ten whole days in a place that was full of dirt. A relative of the owner of the animal, about 60 years old, could not stand the sad spectacle and appealed to Justice, filing a lawsuit.

This is one of the rare, if not unique, cases that cases of animal abuse and killing concern the Volos Prosecutor’s Office after a complaint by a witness and even a relative of the violator of the legislation on dominant animals. Usually such incidents are reported by animal lovers and the police authorities are looking for witnesses to reach the perpetrators of acts of horror with the investigations finally remaining open for lack of evidence.

The Volos Prosecutor’s Office immediately intervened in the tragic incident, requesting testimony and the case file was forwarded to the interrogation. Killing an animal is a criminal offense punishable by a felony.

The existing institutional framework for the abuse and killing of animals provides for a prison sentence of up to 10 years, as well as a fine of several thousand euros depending on the case.

The complainant pointed out that the perpetrator had abused animals again in the past.

It is pointed out that the abandonment, importation, trafficking, reproduction of mutilated dogs and participation of mutilated animals in exhibitions, abuse, cruel treatment and euthanasia are punished with the same penalties.

Despite the strict legislation, the incidents are repeated

Unfortunately, despite the fact that the legislation has become very strict for the violators of the rules of pet welfare, new cases of animal abuse and killing are constantly being revealed. Unconscious people usually torture stray souls, throw nests, attack animals with weapons.

The Volos Prosecutor’s Office intervenes in each case separately, which is reported by the local press, requesting that the legislation be implemented and that offenders be brought to justice. Police investigations are underway at the local Police Departments to search for and locate the perpetrators.

Daily cases

The president of the Animal Welfare Association of Volos “World and Nature” Florika Tsirogianni says that animal lovers are faced with such incidents every day.

“We find animals which, while dominant, are abandoned on the road. A few days ago, the Stray Animal Shelter hosted 18 puppies that were found orphaned without a family. The problem is so large that it discredits the city and the county in terms of tourism. “A few days ago, a couple of tourists covered the expenses for the treatment of a puppy that was found abandoned and helpless”, he notes.

Animal lovers find that in addition to abandonment, these are animals that have not been vaccinated, are not dewormed, do not have a chip and have been abused by failing to apply the rules of well-being at home.

“When you find a dominant animal on the street that has been abandoned and you see that it has a collar that tightens it around its neck, you do not know what to think and how to act,” he notes.

The animal lovers are asking the State to proceed with the registration of the dominant animals, because they end up stray and the registration of the hounds that are a big wound. To provide a discount on the rate of sterilization so that citizens with lower incomes can cover the cost.

“We have been shouting since 2003, that pets should be chipped and there should be a register with their registration data”, he notes.

She points out that in Greece there are over two million strays created by dominant animals.

“If there is a record then one can easily be led to the perpetrators who abandon and abuse the animals since we will know their guardians”, he adds.
