The fire that broke out last night in a factory in Aspropyrgos has been reduced, stressed on SKAI 100.3 radio Lefteris Kosmopoulos Deputy Regional Governor of West Attica.
The firefighters gave overnight battle with flames in front of the fire, which spread over an area of four acres, mainly in the courtyard of the company. The fire also spread to warehouses inside the factory.
The forces were further strengthened during the night. 70 firefighters are operating on the spot with 2 groups of pedestrians, 21 vehicles and 2 ladder vehicles, while municipal water tankers and volunteers are providing assistance.
Last night the residents of the area received a message from 112, which urged them to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay indoors because of the smoke. The fire burns plastics, there is a lot of smoke and the atmosphere is suffocating.
Measurement of air pollution
As Mr. Kosmopoulos told SKAI, a team from the Region will go to the spot in order to make measurements in the atmosphere, in order to find out where the air pollution is, as the fire has burned very large quantities of plastics.
According to the deputy governor, the team will inform the Ministry of Civil Protection and then decisions will be made on whether schools and services can operate in the area.
