“Ash” 4,322 acres of land in Glyfada – Voula – Weights from the fire, according to Copernicus

In 4,322 acres rises the area destroyed by the great fire in Hymettuswhich started from Ano Glyfada and ended in the municipality of Voula-Vari-Vouliagmeni, where it caused the greatest damage, on the south side of the mountain.

This emerges from the recording made by the Service Copernicus / Emergency Management Service – Mapping of the European Union, through its satellite, which was activated by the Directorate of Planning and Emergency Response of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, following the order of the Secretary General, Vassilis Papageorgiou, immediately after the demarcation of the fire, in order to of the damaged area.

It is worth noting that, according to Civil Protection sources, from the above burned land, about 3,000 acres were reforestation forests, much of which was from the 1970s, after the great fire of 1974, which had burned the entire southern slope of Mount Hymettus.

The rest of the area had also been reforested in the past, but has been burned several times, so it was mostly low vegetation.

The map of the Copernicus Service shows in detail the area burned, as well as buildings that may have been affected within the urban fabric in Ano Voulasomething that is not reliable, as the photo is from above, so the damage is counted road by road, by the Fire Department, the municipality and the Region, in order to compensate the victims.

As for the counting by the Fire Department, it is formally completed today at noon, but it is essentially over.

Evidence so far shows that the flames caused damage to 11 buildings, one of which burned internally on two floors and another burned the roof and severely damaged the exterior. Also, one car and one motorcycle were completely burned and two other cars were damaged.
