In fact, they talk about the non-existent protection and legal coverage of the health workers who are attacked during their work, while they emphasize that the guarding of Thriasio hospital is insufficient.
New attack and injury of a doctor in Thriasio hospital, the employees complain in a relevant announcement.
In fact, they talk about the non-existent protection and legal coverage of the health workers who are attacked during their work, while they emphasize that the guarding of Thriasio hospital is insufficient.
The hospital announcement:
«The recent (June 5, 2022) unacceptable incident of an accompanying patient’s attack on a specialized pediatrician at the Pediatric ICU of THRIASIOS hospital, resulting in her injury, confirms, once again, the need to ensure, with state responsibility, full legal coverage and support to the health workers, who are attacked during their work, as well as to strengthen the security of our hospital and the public health units as a whole.
The incident of the recent attack is not isolated. They add to the ever-increasing incidence of attacks, even serious injuries, on employees of public health facilities.
Typical examples are the frequent attacks on colleagues in the Emergency Department of our hospital, such as on January 20, 2022, the attack and injury of a doctor on December 24, 2021, by a “patient” who for years was “undisturbed”, harassed, threatened, threatened injures employees of our hospital, as well as the “invasion” of a group of self-proclaimed “Guardians of the Constitution”, on August 28, 2021, and the prostitution of colleagues in the Pulmonary Clinic, on the occasion of intubation of a patient with COVID and its transfer to ICU.
Contributing to the increase in attacks on colleagues is the ongoing slander campaign against health workers as collectively “corrupt”, as alleged “co-responsible” for the unacceptable situation in public health facilities, and, especially recently, the targeting by far-right groups as accomplices “in alleged” crimes against patients “.
The growing attacks make it imperative to ensure, through state responsibility, full legal coverage and support for healthcare providers who are attacked during their work. Although we have repeatedly asked for legal coverage, in cases of attacks on health, both in the previous and the current government, there is absolutely no response.
At the same time, we point out, once again, that despite the repeated interventions of our Association, the serious problem of inadequate guarding of the THRASIOS hospital remains.
It is characteristic that instead of the immediate strengthening of the guard with personnel, under the responsibility of the government and the administrations of the 2nd RAE and the GNE THRIASIO, out of 23 guards initially, only 12 (the 10 contractors) are left to “pave the way” for the assignment of custody to a contracting company. As a result, in order to guard the entire hospital, there are only 3 guards in the afternoon shifts and only 2 guards in the night shifts, who are often assigned answering machine duties.
In order not to repeat similar unacceptable incidents of attacks on colleagues, we proceed to a Work Stoppage (12 pm – 1 pm) on Thursday, June 16 and a massive intervention in the administration of THRIASIOS hospital, with requests:
- Initiate the necessary legal proceedings for those involved in the attacks and provocations in health burden
- Provide full legal support and coverage to employees who are attacked during
- of their work
- To strengthen the guarding of the THRASIO hospital, by hiring permanent employees and making the
- contract colleagues, as well as hospital courtyard and parking lot lighting
- To hire answering machines to ensure the continuous operation of the call center “.
