An unusual spectacle reminiscent of other eras was seen by passers-by in the center in the morning. The reason for a gathering with “protagonists” horses, who have starred in the Hippodrome, which takes place in the Old Parliament in the center of Athens. These are employees of the Hippodrome who have gathered and are protesting peacefully, asking not to lose their jobs.
The protesters remain in Kolokotroni Square, however they did not block the road asking to see the prime minister.
Speaking to SKAI, the hippodrome coach Adonis Kritikos with “Manousos” requested a meeting with the prime minister. “The racetrack closes in a month, 100 years of history, it goes to the bottom,” he stressed.
For his part, Mr. Charalambos Charalambous explained that a contract was made in 2015 (Vassiliadis-Tsakalotou bill) between HRDH and OPAP, and OPAP undertook the races. The contract had some ambiguities that give OPAP the right from 2022 to stop racing if it wants to. He asked HRDH, OPAP, and the government to find a solution so that 2000 families and 350 horses are not left on the road.
In his turn, Christos Theodorakis spoke about a peaceful protest rally and asked their delegation to see the prime minister for 15 minutes so that he can solve the problem with the sensitivity he has.
