With the participation of Olympic and new boats, the 59th edition of the Aegean Rally

With the participation top athletes, experienced crews as well as new boats will start tomorrow 59th Aegean Rally. In its organization Panhellenic Offshore Sailing Club Olympians of the triangle, such as Takis Mantis and Pavlos Kayialis, will also take part. The start of the first race will take place in Sounio (14.00) and the sailboats will open sails to the Volissos of Chios (105 nm).

They have declared their participation in the 59th Aegean Rally sailing teams international level but also crews who have extensive experience from the special sailing conditions of the Aegean Sea. One of the teams that stands out is that of “Velos”, in which the Olympians participate Takis Mantisς και Pavlos Kagialis, while triangle and offshore champions will compete with them. Special mention should be made of his team of “Optimum”, which will be at the helm of the event for the 29th year.

This year it will run with the new boat, the “Optimum S – Samos Steamship”, which will “test” it for the first time in the Aegean with the aim of a good preparation in view of the international race of POIATH. , of the “AEGEAN 600” that will be held next month (8-16 / 7). “Despite the difficult economic and social conditions, the Aegean Rally continues its course. This is an event aimed at experienced sailors. “Our co-organizers are the North Aegean Region, the Municipality of Chios, while the fight will take place with the support of the Navy”, said the president of POIATH. Ioannis Maragoudakis. The fleet of the “Aegean Rally” will be accompanied by the General Support Ship of the Navy “Atlas I”. The ship was purchased in 2019 by the P. Laskaridis Foundation and delivered to the Navy on December 2, 2019.

During their stay of crews in Chios two races are scheduled to take place. There will be a “Tour of the southern beaches of the island” (48 nm) and a local sailing race (35 nm). On June 15, a wreath will be laid at the monument for the Slaughter of Chios, in Cape Melanio as the 59th event of the longest offshore race in the Eastern Mediterranean is dedicated to the memory of the “Slaughter of Chios” (1822-2022).

And this year the “Aegean Rally” has an environmental sign. On June 13, the crews, in cooperation with HELMEPA, will perform a symbolic cleaning of a coast in “Mastic Island”. This is the action “To save our seas” organized in recent years by the Panhellenic Offshore Sailing Club.

Co-organizers of the 59th Aegean Rally, with the support of the Navy, are the North Aegean Region and the Municipality of Chios. Collaborating Clubs are the Nautical Club of Chios and the Nautical Sports Club of Lavreotiki. The race is sponsored for the sixth consecutive year by the multinational paint company JOTUN, while the sponsors are the companies, D. KORONAKIS SA one of the largest manufacturers of ropes and chains for shipping, the technical support company on seagoing ships TECHNAVA SA, Olympic Marine in Lavrio, the beer NISOS from Tinos and the natural mineral water ZAGORI.
