Bad weather GENESIS: 224 calls to the Fire Brigade for water pumps and release

There are many problems caused by bad weather GENESIS since yesterday, with many areas being “drowned” by heavy rainfall and the roads becoming rivers.

The Fire Department said in a statement that it received 224 calls for tree felling, water pumping, removal of objects and transport of people to safe places, from 07:30 on Friday morning to 06:30 on Saturday morning.

In more detail:

• In the Region of Western Greece, 79 calls, of which 7 for tree felling, 48 for water pumping, 2 for object removal, one for road washing and 21 for releasing people and transporting them to safe places.
• In the Ionian Islands Region, 6 of which, 3 for tree felling, 1 for water pumping and 2 for object removal in Corfu and Lefkada
• In the Region of Thessaly, 3 calls for water pumps.
• In the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 114 calls of which, 16 for tree felling, 91 for water pumping, 3 for transporting people to safe places and 4 for removing objects in Evros, Rodopi, Xanthi, Drama and Kavala.
• In the Region of Central Macedonia 16 calls of which, 8 for tree cutting and 7 for water pumping in Thessaloniki, Pieria, Imathia and 1 for assistance.
• In the Region of Western Macedonia 6 calls of which, 3 for tree cutting and 3 for water pumping in Ptolemaida, Deskati and Serbia Kozani.

In accordance with Extraordinary Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena issued on Thursday 09 June 2022, by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), our country is affected by bad weather under the name “GENESIS” with the main characteristics of heavy rains and thunderstorms that will be accompanied by hail, high frequency of lightning and strong winds.

The bad weather will continue to affect today, Saturday (11-06-2022) until the evening, the following areas: Central and eastern Macedonia, eastern Thessaly, Sporades, Evia, Thrace, the islands of the northern Aegean and gradually, the islands of eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. From the evening the effects will weaken.

During the noon and afternoon hours, Epirus, western Macedonia, Sterea (including Attica) and the eastern Peloponnese will be temporarily affected.

Therefore, the operational plan for dealing with the risks of floods, as well as their accompanying phenomena, remains in place, while the Fire Services of the areas where the phenomena are expected to develop remain in a state of increased readiness and further escalation, if required. with a dispersion of staff and vehicles, in order to deal immediately with any problems.

We strongly recommend to the citizens in the affected areas to follow the following basic instructions faithfully:

• We avoid any unnecessary movement during severe weather conditions and secure your doors and windows tightly, always keeping in mind in case of torrents to move to the highest points of the house.
• We NEVER cross torrents, streams or flooded roads, on foot or by vehicle. For no reason!
• We follow the relevant announcements in the media and we always follow the instructions of the Authorities.
