The lawyer was fined 20,000 euros, as he is facing a felony charge, unlike the others who are being prosecuted for misdemeanors.
After their apologies to the 5th regular interrogator of Thessaloniki, the accused for case of attempted illegal adoption of a newborn which was revealed in the previous 24 hours in Thessaloniki.
He is a lawyer, the biological parents of the newborn and the androgynous of the alleged prospective parents. The first was fined 20,000 euros, as he faces a felony charge, unlike the others who are being prosecuted for misdemeanors.
Everyone in their apologies denied the allegations, claiming their own position on the case. Specifically, the biological parents (of Bulgarian origin and aged 37 and 38), as reported, claimed that they came to Greece to work and that they had no intention of giving their child up for adoption, nor was any transaction preceded.
For his part, the 62-year-old lawyer allegedly apologized for trying to help Bulgarian parents give birth in Greece and for attending the translation process. As for the prospective parents (Greeks, 49 and 47 years old) they seem to have said that they considered that it was a legal adoption and not a “purchase”, and that they took some money for the birth process and other procedural issues.
The same case file includes a 58-year-old Bulgarian man who is wanted and is known to the authorities for his previous involvement in similar cases.
The “tangle” of the case began to unfold when last Sunday (12/6) the 38-year-old defendant gave birth to a baby boy at the Hippocratic Hospital of Thessaloniki. The police investigation revealed that she had come for this purpose from her homeland, accompanied by her 37-year-old husband. Their actions made the staff of the Hospital suspicious and the Police were informed, as a result of which an investigation was launched by the Department for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings of the Security of Thessaloniki.
According to the case file, the newborn was to be handed over to a childless couple, who had previously addressed the lawyer in order for him to mediate in order to adopt a child without following the prescribed procedures. The money, which – according to the case file – they had agreed to give for the completion of the delivery and adoption process of the baby ranged from 17,000 to 19,000 euros. The police investigation revealed that the prospective parents paid 1,435 euros for childbirth and medical expenses, as well as for the expenses of the mediators.
