This Sunday (19), the chef of the Mocotó restaurant, Rodrigo Oliveira, published on his social networks a print of a message in which the location of the establishment is criticized. Outside the popular hub of São Paulo, in Vila Medeiros, the restaurant was the favorite of São Paulo residents in 2016, 2017 and 2019, according to Datafolha.
Sandra, the name visible in the screenshot, criticized the place alleging insecurity, in addition to saying “hope to open a restaurant here in Tatuapé, this wonderful neighborhood full of good restaurants with the same name as yours”.
Rodrigo responded in a public post. “Hi, Sandra, precisely because there are people who still think like you that we continue to live and do business in Vila Medeiros. So, who knows, one day our neighborhood will be (even more!) full of successful businesses and opportunities for people who live here.”
After Rodrigo’s publication, users of social networks come out in defense of the restaurant and Vila Medeiros, and say that the middle class never tires of being ashamed.
“I have a lot of admiration for Rodrigo and his wife, Adriana, in addition to the wonderful food at Mocotó, their local action in generating employment and fighting hunger in the region is splendid”, said one Twitter user.
Among tweets repudiating Sandra’s message, congratulations also appeared on the chef’s position.
Some say that Tatuapé is where the new rich are and point to prejudice in the customer’s message. Comparisons between the neighborhood and other places in the capital of São Paulo, supposedly more or less dangerous, also gained prominence among the tweets.
“Those who have money (or think they do) in SP think that services should continue to revolve around them and the neighborhoods where they live. The rest either sucks or is too far away,” wrote another.
Chef Rodrigo Oliveira shared on his Instagram posts from other residents and establishments in Vila Medeiros, who endorse his speech.
