Pelion is my favorite place in the world, said among others, the father of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Stanley

Honorary citizen of South Pelion was announced today in the context of the inauguration of the new town hall of Argalasti, the father of the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Stanley

Michalis Mitzikos implemented the decision taken by a majority, the Municipal Council of South Pelion after a relevant proposal of the mayor.

The 81-year-old former MEP of the Conservatives, diplomat and writer, is the owner of the villa “Irene” in Horto Pelion, where he spends his summer holidays.

Boris Johnson’s son is also coming to the area, since he was a Member of Parliament for Torres, later as Mayor of London and then as Secretary of State.

In his statements to journalists, Mr. Johnson, in the Greek language, said:

I come to this the part of Greece for over 20 years. I can honestly say that it really is my favorite place in the whole world: the sun, the sea, the architecture, the history, the wildlife and above all, of course, the people. THE Hellas is the country located in the heart of Europe. Politically, Britain may have left the European Union, but Britain will always remain part of this great continent. As a student I studied ancient Greece and of course I then learned about Pelion as the place where the great Achilles was taught by the Centaurs. Whenever I go to Volos I think of Jason and the Argonauts. Now I have the opportunity to live here and have a home here.

When asked if his son will visit our country, he said: Yes, there is a possibility. In Greece it can, who knows?

Regarding the discussion that has developed for the return of the Parthenon sculptures, Mr. Johnson replied: I think that the administrations of the two Museums are already discussing with each other. We will wait to see the result of these discussions.
