Mitsotakis: Greece is turning into a big construction site

by

“Greece is turning into a big construction site. We are dealing with pending issues that come to us from the past but at the same time we are planning the new big projects of the future “, said the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a meeting at the offices of the Epirus Region, in Ioannina.

The meeting examined planned projects and initiatives for the development of regional infrastructure and the local economy, with emphasis on roads, the use of resources of the Recovery Fund and the “Antonis Tritsis” program, in agricultural and irrigation issues. Special mention was made of the advanced planning for the construction of the Ioannina-Kalpaki-Kakavia road, about 70 km long, which will upgrade the connection of Epirus with the rest of Greece and the Western Balkans. The project is scheduled to be auctioned in 2022.

“I had given a clear direction from the beginning to the Minister and the Deputy Minister to find a practical and workable solution. The solution was found in consultation with the Region, with the correct dimensioning of the road so that it can be eligible for European funding. It will be a modern, fast, safe, closed road, which will finally connect Ioannina with Kakavia with the Western Balkans. “A road which -as you understand- has a great national and geopolitical importance”, stressed the Prime Minister.

He noted that the new project completes a grid of actions for the substantial expansion of infrastructure in our country, which have an economic and social footprint. “It is a road that will come and will in its way be the natural continuation of the Ionia Odos on the one hand and the E65, on the other hand, another very important highway, which will essentially allow the residents, the professionals of southern Greece, Athens to communicate with Western Macedonia and Epirus through two different routes “.

On the occasion of the post of SYRIZA MP Rallia Christidou, which featured a recent visit of the Prime Minister to Metsovo, which had taken place in 2019, the Prime Minister stressed with meaning ” to Epirus without me even coming here and drinking tsipoura or whiskey with Mr. Amyras, possibly in their own fantasy world of fake news. Today, however, we are not talking about fake news, we are talking about real projects that are being implemented and which essentially change the face of Epirus “.
