Airbnb bans parties and events in accommodations

by

Airbnb announced this Tuesday (28) that parties and events are permanently banned in accommodations listed on the platform. Until then, the restriction was temporary, instituted in August 2020 to contain the advance of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Over time, the party ban has become much more than a public health measure. It has become a grassroots community policy to support our hosts and their neighbors,” the company said in a statement.

According to Airbnb, reports of party disruptions have dropped by 44% since the measure was introduced. In 2021, more than 6,600 users had their accounts suspended for attempting to violate the ban.

Airbnb has the Neighbor Support Channel, which can be used to report parties and irregularities to the platform.

In addition, the limit of 16 guests per accommodation – also a result of the pandemic – will be removed in the coming months. The company stated that there are places that, by definition, are able to comfortably and safely receive more than 16 people.

“Removing this limit helps to allow these hosts to welcome a greater number of guests, within the limit allowed in the accommodation, using the home responsibly, while complying with the party ban”, explained the platform.
