Even if it becomes possible for Turkey to acquire modernized F16Greece will maintain its technological advantage in the Aegean and its air supremacy, estimated in an article in forbes.com making an assessment of what came after the Madrid Synod.

Since it is emphasized that in order to proceed the F16 acquisition process from Turkey there should be approval from Congress, the article points out that Greece’s request to buy F35 is also on the table.

According to the report if both of these agreements are approved, the Hellenic Air Force will still have a technological advantagea against Turkey’s largest air force as our country will have fifth generation aircraft.

“Greece has already secured a contract for the upgrade 84 F-16s in Block 72 configuration. Lockheed Martin will complete that contract in mid-2027. So even if the Biden administration can win congressional approval for the Turkish F-16 deal soon, which is not guaranteed, Greece will still has 84 modernized F-16s before Turkey does,” the Forbes article states.

“Even if Turkey gets 120 F-16 Block 70/72 (40 brand new and 80 upgraded), they will face 84 Block 72 Vipers (all in service no later than the second half of 2027), 20-40 F-35, and, at least, 24 Rafales. In other words, no less than 128 Hellenic Air Force fighters with equal or superior capabilities to Turkey’s best jets,” the report concludes.
