An autopsy at the Attica Zoological Park was carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Environment after the killing of the chimpanzee
The competent echelon of the Ministry of Energy and Environment carried out autopsy in the “Attica Theme Park S.A» on the occasion of the escape incident and killing of a “alpha male chimpanzee» on Saturday, June 25, and released the following two findings:
The specially designed facilities are currently home to eight (8) primates of the “Pan troglodytes” species, for which the Attica Theme Park S.A. holds all the necessary Intra-Community Certificates for commercial activities from the respective Administrative Authorities “Cites” of Germany, Poland and of France for three (3) people, while the remaining five were born on the Park’s premises.
With regard to the chimpanzee that was killed, after the control, it was established that the Attica Theme Park SA holds the necessary Intra-Community Certificate for commercial activities from the Administrative Authority “Cites” of France.
It is reminded by the Ministry of the Interior that, according to the current legislation, the authority for granting a license to establish and operate Zoos and renewing or revoking their operating license belongs to the Region of Attica and its Veterinary Services, which carry out checks on the conditions of escape and killing the chimpanzee.
In addition, the responsible officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taking into account the results of the inspections carried out, are working on proposals to improve the security measures and the full control of the area, in order to prevent incidents of escape and killing of guest animals, such as the division into sectors, the creation 2nd security zone per sector, the visual and audio signals that will warn in the event of interruption of the operation of the electric fencing and fence reinforcements.
