300% increase in sales of holiday homes to German nationals in the first half of this year compared to last year
The Germans rise to first place of foreign home buyers in Greece, investing increased amounts in seaside properties, with preference in areas such as Crete and the Ionian Islands, according to data by Elxis, service company specializing in high quality holiday homes.
Figures show that home sales to German nationals rose by 300% in the first half of this year, compared to 2021. This growth puts German buyers in first place among holiday home buyers in the country, ahead of investors from other European countries. countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
Figures from Elxis, which has been active in the real estate industry for more than 30 years, also show that Germans have the largest sums, going on to purchase homes that reach an average of €350,000. This amount corresponds to an increase of approximately 20% compared to last year as confidence in Greece increases, points out the George GavrielidisCEO and founder of Elxis.
“Greece offers excellent value, which investors are increasingly seeing. The overdeveloped coastlines of other countries, such as Spain, and the very high prices in other Mediterranean countries are pushing buyers to look for other quality solutions, thus turning to our country. Despite the challenges stemming from the war in Ukraine and inflationary pressures, the demand for housing in Greece remains high and is expected to continue. This can be seen from the Bank of Greece’s recent data for the first quarter of 2022, according to which there were inflows of 374 million euros for the purchase of real estate in Greece, an amount greater by 74.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2021”, emphasizes Mr. Gavrielidis.
