The Fire Department is on alert, as fire fronts have been breaking out in several areas of the country in the last few hours.

In fact, at 1.25 in the afternoon a message was sent from 112 for the evacuation of the settlement of Mytikas to Mat.

Firefighting forces are constantly being reinforced and at the moment there are 130 firefighters operating with 35 vehicles, 6 pedestrian units, 5 aircraft and 6 helicopters, one of which is coordinating. Support is also provided by volunteer firefighters, water carriers and OTA project machinery, as well as forces of the Greek National Police.

The firefighting forces, ground and aerial, are operating fully and in a coordinated manner, as the Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection of the municipality of Mandras, Panagiotis Kolovendzos, told APE-MPE.

“The fire is in the ravine and it is burning forest areas,” he said and added: “The forces are working in full and on the entire front, but the constant changes in the air are making their work very difficult. If the wind didn’t have this power, we would have brought it under control, but it changes constantly and at some moments it gets very strong.”

So far, it has not been reported that any house was burned, however, because the front is moving towards Mytikas, the authorities proceeded with an evacuation in time. “Mytikas was evacuated as a precaution, with an order to move towards Psatha. From then on, we are fully mobilized with all our forces”, said Mr. Kolovenzos.

Fokida: Revival in Sernikaki

The fire brigades are also mobilized in Fokida due to revival that broke out in the Sernikaki area.
