Researchers discover transparent fish and sea spider in Alaska

Researchers have identified a rare, transparent fish and a giant sea spider in the Alaska.

The researchers named this species “Crystallichthys cyclospilus” and it is a fish that can survive in an extraordinary way in its environment. It lives at great depths, where sunlight rarely reaches, and thus marine predators do not circulate there. Scientists have also identified a giant – hitherto unknown – species of sea spider.

I’ve been hoping to see one of these up close for a long time!Sarah Friedman, a fish biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, tweeted.

As the “Daily Mail” writes, the biologist and her team saw the fish during a survey that NOAA conducts every year in the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska.

The Aleutians or Aleutian Islands are an island arc consisting of 14 large and 55 smaller volcanic islands. They extend over a distance of about 2,500 kilometers, from the Alaskan peninsula to Kamchatka. “We’ve found four or five so far in the two weeks we’ve been outFriedman said.

However, humans are unlikely to see this particular fish because it is at a depth of 100 to 200 meters. Her team also spotted a large, orange-colored sea spider with stilt-like legs, also known as a ‘Colossendeis’.

This creature can reach up to 20 cm long, and their diet includes sea anemones and other invertebrates.

Friedman explained that these fish also have other distinguishing features such as suction cups on their lower bodies that allow them to cling to rocks.
