Drama: A “wall of goodness” that writes its own love story (vid, pics)

Manos Loizos’ favorite song was about a wall that had its own story. Since then, every wall has to “tell” a story drawn from the actions of people. As common as this may sound, it is a great truth for all those who through their actions, actions and energies want to write their own story. In fact, when it aims to awaken every small or large community of people, then the message that is transmitted is not only strong, but at the same time comforting and useful.

Such a message has been transmitted since 2016 by a group of volunteers in the city of Drama, who each time write a separate story on a “Wall of Goodness”. This is the name of the group of people, which in these seven years of operation, offers all kinds of help to our fellow human beings who are in need and need support and support. The most important thing is that all this effort is done quietly, anonymously and with complete selflessness.

As Eleftheria, the volunteer group’s communication manager, explains to APE-MPE, there are four basic principles of all volunteers who offer their services to the group that operates in the legal form of an association: anonymity, solidarity, selflessness and humanity. The young volunteer does not want her last name to be known as, as she explains, “the pure offer is not advertised, it is not awarded, it is not colored politically, it is not personified, it is not speculative. So it does not matter what you say, but what you offer to comfort your fellow man “.

Eleftheria reports that the “Wall of Goodness” started as an idea from Larissa, when a similar volunteer group nailed wooden hangers on walls in various parts of the city, where anyone could, anonymously and silently, leave bags. with food, which could just as quietly and anonymously be taken by people in need. This is how this action started in Drama as well.

Offer actions with love messages

“Initially we made beautiful wooden hangers that we placed on walls in various neighborhoods of Drama”, explains Eleftheria and continues: “we informed our fellow citizens that there they can hang bags of dry food so that those who needed it can take them. The response of the people was moving and encouraged us to continue the effort. Thus, today, the actions of the Wall of Goodness have increased, covering almost every need faced by our fellow human beings inside and outside Drama “.

As part of this, the volunteers collected bags and school supplies at the beginning of each new school year to be distributed to families with children who could not afford to buy new bags. In fact, they encouraged people in each bag to write and put a message of love to the child who will receive the bag. In the same context, the volunteers of the Wall of Goodness collected food, bedding, basic necessities that they sent to Crete and Evia in order to give to people affected by fires and earthquakes. And in these actions, a beautiful and encouraging message of love or a child painting was inside every humanitarian aid package. Also, every Easter they implement a similar action, where they collect candles and toys to give to children from poor families.

According to Eleftheria, people from all over Greece, as well as many Draminians, organized associations and businesses, become links in all these love chains and especially in the actions of collecting food and basic necessities.

An organized social service

Recently, the “Wall of Goodness” also has an organized social service, to which individuals and organizations can turn, in an effort to offer organized help and support to those in need.

As Eleftheria underlines, “people’s needs are not always the same, they vary and are shaped according to what everyone has to face in their daily lives. Our concern is to adapt our work to the needs of the people and to meet them. For example, at one point we learned that two parents had given birth to a baby and could not afford to buy everything the newborn needed. Thus, our efforts were focused on providing the new parents with all the necessary baby food so that both their own daily life and that of their newborn baby become better and easier “.

“For us, at the Wall”, Eleftheria continues, “providing help to our fellow human beings in need is the purpose of our existence as a union. It is an element of our identity and way of life. When you offer, your soul is filled with warmth and light. It is an emotion that everyone has felt. We feel it every time, and it is always the same undiminished feeling as before. And this “thank you”, the gratitude that is reflected in the eyes of people, even for something that seems minimal to us, fills our hearts with love and strength. This is how we continue our course, with fellow travelers all those who help and support us “.

One of the most important activities of active volunteers is aimed at young children. They try, through a series of games and interactive exercises, to promote the value of volunteering, holding high humanity, kindness, courage and selflessness.

“For what you have in your heart”

For this Christmas, the volunteer team of the Wall of Goodness urges and invites all its friends to give love and at the same time to help any of our fellow human beings in need.

The female members of the group created with great passion a wonderful Christmas collection, entitled “For what you have in your heart”, inviting everyone to become a link in a large chain of love and thus supporting the goals of the association.

This year’s Christmas collection includes handmade ornaments and balls for the Christmas tree, on which beautiful wishes can be written, as well as delicious cookies in various Christmas designs and all this in beautiful festive packages. All money raised from the sale of all Christmas items will be donated to the association.
