Larry: Who owns the Downing Street cat anyway?

Larry is the official mouse hunter of Downing Street and in fact his duties are posted on the official website.

The dramatic developments that led to his resignation Boris Johnsongathered global interest in the UK and led again hordes of TV crews outside Downing Street. The heavy political news, however, did not prevent photographers and cameras from recording his walks Larry the cat in front of number 10 and his tricks in front of the media.

Larry is, after all, a fixture in Downing Street unlike its occupants.

But who does Larry belong to?

In 2016 David Cameron explained that Larry is one State employee and does not belong to any particular person.

His incredible story began at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, from where he was transferred to his new home on February 15, 2011.

THE Lynsey Quinland from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, said: “It seems like just yesterday that Larry came to us as a stray looking for a home. I don’t think anyone back then could have imagined how incredible his life would eventually become.”

“During his time at number 10, Larry has proven to be a great ambassador for our center and a great example of how wonderful stray cats are.”he added.

Larry is Downing Street’s official mouse catcher and his duties are even posted on the official website. He is said to spend his days greeting guests, investigating security holes and testing antique furniture for sleep quality, according to the Indy100.

The cat also has many fans, who send him daily gifts and treats from all over the country.

Now Boris Johnson is gone, but Larry will stay, ready to welcome the next occupant of Downing Street.
