With the first light of day, the sea and land searches will continue to locate the 28-year-old tourist from North Macedonia who dived at Myti beach, in Poseidi, Halkidiki and has been missing since Saturday afternoon.

His two friends, with whom he vacationed in Halkidiki and were with him at sea, when they were swept away by strong sea currents, managed to be saved.

His 25-year-old friend, Vasil, was picked up by a Coast Guard boat, a short time after he was swept away by the strong sea currents in the area, and was first taken to the fishing shelter of Nea Skioni and then to Polygyros Hospital for medical treatment.

Their other friend, 30-year-old Ivan, was found after about 19 hours at sea, 14 miles from Nea Skioni by helicopter and picked up by a cargo ship participating in the search.

The 30-year-old Ivan, who was first taken to the Kassandra Health Center and then to the Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki, reported that when they went swimming the sea was calm and within two minutes everything changed, strong winds started blowing and waves rising.

In the investigations carried out under the coordination of the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center, two patrol boats of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, seven ships floating by sea and an Air Force helicopter attempted from the air.

Investigations are also being carried out on land in the area around Poseidi by a patrol vehicle of the Coast Guard and on foot units of the Hellenic Rescue Team. Volunteer rescuers from OFKAT are also participating in the operation.
