Thessaloniki: He fired an employee for waking him up with the garbage truck

A municipal cleaning worker was the victim of an attack Cordeliou – Evosmouwho was punched in the face by a citizen because he was… woken up by the noise of the garbage truck.

This unimaginable incident occurred at 05:30 on Saturday morning, on 25th March Street, in Evosmos. Initially, according to information from ThessToday.gr, the citizen went out on the balcony and verbally attacked the workers who at that time were collecting waste. However, he did not stop at the verbal attack, as he then got out of his house, moved behind the truck and threw punches at one of the municipal employees, hitting him in the face, even telling him “you woke me up and the garbage truck”.

The scenes of panic mobilized passers-by who rushed to pull the citizen away from the worker, who was in a state of shock from the attack and even had bruises on his face from the blows.

Speaking to ThessToday.gr, the Deputy Mayor of Cleanliness and Recycling of the municipality of Kordelios – Evosmos, Christos Demertzis, condemned the violent incident and emphasized that the municipal authority will stand by the employee in any legal action taken against the citizen.

“Similar incidents will not be tolerated. Cleaning workers put up a huge struggle every day and respect is the minimum citizens should give them. The profession is quite difficult and is done under adverse weather conditions all year round,” he said.
