Lignadis trial: The prosecutor requested that no mitigating circumstances be recognized

by

Dimitris Lignadis was found guilty by the court of two rapes of minors, while he was acquitted due to doubts for two more rapes.

No one should be recognized mitigating from those requested by Dimitris Lignadis suggested the prosecutor of the seat of the Mixed Jury Court Konstantinos Kountrias.

“I consider that there are no mitigating circumstances in the person of the accused” said the prosecutor, requesting that the court not accept either the mitigating factor of cohabitation or good behavior after the act, requested through his lawyer by Dimitris Lignadis, found guilty of two rapes against minors.

“I don’t want to believe that justice is influenced by the media. Justice is human and I respect your judgement. When justice speaks, we are silent. The purpose of the sentence is not to terrify anyone who is thinking of committing the same crime, but the better development of the personality of the accused. You acquitted him in one act, with a marginal majority you condemn him in another” among other things, his lawyer said, addressing the jury: “For what you decide, about the mitigating factors that involve delicate legal concepts, you should respect the knowledge of the experts.”

Proceedings continue with the court adjourned to rule on mitigation.

Dimitris Lignadis was judged by the court guilty of two counts of rape of minors, while he was acquitted on suspicion of two more rapes, of an adult and a minor. The decision was taken by majority vote.

The president of the Court, Panagiota Ioupi, announced the verdict of the judges, who by majority declared the former head of the National Theater guilty of two of the four acts of sexual violence attributed to him. According to the decision, Dimitris Lignadis was found not guilty beyond reasonable doubt by a majority of 5-2, for the first of the rapes of minors attributed to him with the time of act in 2011, he was also unanimously found not guilty for the rape in 2018 of the adult, who did not come forward in court to testify.
