Fire in Paleochori Samos – Aerial vehicles were also mobilized

An alarm was given to the fire department as a large fire broke out in the West Samos forest area in the location of Agios Nektarios, near the settlement of Paleochori in the village of Marathokambos towards Kallithea.

According to information from the fire department, ground and air forces were mobilized while volunteer forces have already rushed.

As reported by the fire department, ground and aerial means have been mobilized for the fire (4 touch and 3 AP).

The situation is considered critical because strong northerly winds are blowing in the area which, according to residents’ testimonies, make it difficult for aerial vehicles to operate.

The fiery front is raging near Agios Yannis the Merciful, however the direction of the winds is pushing it from the opposite side, towards Limiona and Agia Kyriaki.

Volunteer firefighters rushing to the scene report a severe fire front in a location that is difficult to access by vehicles.

According to information, it is assumed that the fire was caused by a PPC pillar.

The fire is raging quite a distance from the settlement, however there are cottages in the wider area.

Also, the Fire Department is on operational alert due to high risk of fire (risk category 4) tomorrow, Thursday, July 14, for the following areas:

-Region of Attica
-Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia)
– Peloponnese region ( Argolis PE, Corinthia PE)
-North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
– Region of Crete.

Consequently, the 2nd stage of operational readiness of the P.S. and aerial surveillance patrols will continue, as well as patrols by Fire, Police and Military forces.
