by

Among other things, the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, with its announcement on the Lignadis case, speaks of insulting and defamation of the personality of the President of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens motivated for political expediency.

“The Union of Judges and Prosecutors is not going to tolerate the public and incited for political expediency insult and vilification of the personality of the President of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens, as well as the rest of the Judges of the Constitution, who for many years have graced the Greek Judiciary”. This is stated, among other things, in a new announcement issued by Union of Judges and Prosecutorson the occasion of the criticism received by the court, which tried her Lignadis case and especially its president. “We announce in every direction that the control of the judiciary and the intimidation of its representatives will not pass” the Union of Judges and Prosecutors also states and calls on “the parliamentary parties to take a stand and condemn the above unprecedented phenomena for our privileged state”.

In detail in its announcement, the Union of Judges and Prosecutors states:

“Regarding the ongoing public insult to the personality of the President of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens – A gross and motivated attempt to manipulate the Justice in a pending case after the issuance of a decision in the first instance

The Union of Judges and Prosecutors is not going to tolerate the public and MOTIVATED for political expediency insulting and defamation of the personality of the President of the Mixed Jury Court of Athens, as well as the rest of the Judges of the Constitution, who for many years have graced the Greek Judiciary with their excellent jurisprudence training, their integrity and conscientiousness, and who in recent days have been the target of successive slanderous attacks, accompanied by indirect incitements and even acts of violence against them.

In the Rule of Law, court decisions are issued in accordance with the Constitution and Laws of the Greek State. The conditions for granting or not suspending the appeal are defined in the provision of article 497 paragraph 8 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which was passed by the Hellenic Parliament and are judged by the Court based on the evidence of the case file, the fundamental principle of moral proof and the free conscience of the Judges.

The Union of Judges and Prosecutors, following the developments and the People’s Courts, which unfortunately predicted that they would be “set up”, comes to the conclusion that the ongoing public insult to the personality of the Members of our Union and Members of the Composition of the Mixed Jury Court and especially the President of this, involves only political expediency and is clearly MOTIVATED by those who do not show elementary respect for the institutions and the discrediting of these (institutions) is their central political choice, by those who move in the kinetic logic of past years, whose main characteristic is the polarization and division, from those who believe that the Justice is another state mechanism included in their plans and that with the threat of public exposure of personalities of the Greek Justice in squares and in public theaters they will blackmail its decisions in a specific direction, after the issuance of the decision of the M.O.D. and they will manipulate the Judiciary so that it decides according to their wishes. This is how all these centers perceive the Independence of Justice.

The Union of Judges and Prosecutors denounces, publicly, targeted and blackmailing interference in the work of Justice, after the issuance of the decision in the first instance, and will immediately take all the necessary actions to prevent this institutional diversion, the protection of Personalities of Justice against persistent defamation and the safeguarding of the principles of the Rule of Law.

We announce in every direction that the control of Justice and the intimidation of its representatives will not pass.

We call on the parliamentary parties to take a stand and condemn the above unprecedented phenomena for our privileged state”.
