According to the update, the Antonov was carrying:

  • 60mm M62 mortar training rounds,
  • 82mm M62 mortar training rounds and
  • 82mm M67 mortar flares.

Investigations in the rural area of ​​Antiphilippi in Kavala are already being carried out by two groups of pyrotechnicians.

The Special Nuclear-Biological-Chemical Defense Response Company of the GHETHA will check the white substance, which according to the lieutenant general of the Fire Brigade, Marios Apostolidis, is scattered around the wreckage of the aircraft and will decide on its dangerousness.

Environmental inspectors immediately go to the area of ​​the plane crash following the order of PEN Minister Kostas Skrekas.

The team of inspectors is to determine if there is an environmental hazard from the cargo.

For their part, the local Authorities assure that all necessary measures are taken for the safety of life and health of citizens and they express fears about the possibility that not all the ammunition carried by the aircraft has exploded, as well as about the possibility of the existence of toxic substances.

Residents were advised to close doors and windows and not to use air conditioners.

In this context, the mayor of Pangaios, Filippos Anastasiadiswith his announcement prohibited traffic of all agricultural vehicles and pedestrians in the rural areas of the local communities of Antiphilippi and Paleochori, in order to avoid any problems from the aircraft debris that has been thrown in a radius of several meters.

The mayor emphasized that it is deemed necessary to have this ban, as the exact number of parties is still not known aircraft scattered across the countryside nor, however, the dangerousness of the cargo which he carried.

There are currently 30 Firefighters and forces from the two EMAK, EL.AS, Local Self-Government and EKAV forces on the scene. Support is also provided by helicopters of the Unified Coordination Center for Search and Rescue (ESKED).

According to DEDDIE, electricity in the area has been restored for the most part, while they remain seven substations out of power affecting ten businesses and twenty residences in an area near the accident site.

Also, a water supply problem was remedied by installing an electric generator at a pumping station in the area.

Antonov: What was he carrying – Where was he going

The Antonov transport plane that crashed near Kavala was carrying 11.5 tons of military material and its final destination was Bangladesh, the Serbian Defense Minister said at a press conference Neboisa Stefanovic.

Neboisa Stefanovic assured that the process of exporting the ammunition was legal and had the approval of the Serbian Ministry of Defense. The aircraft belonged to a Ukrainian airline, Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said at the press conference.
