by

The problem with the increase in the population of wild boars is equally acute.

Whole crops have been destroyed in the area of Didymoteichos but also throughout it Evroas they have been affected by worm – a larva which grows by the millions and has caused total destruction in many fields in the region. The problem with the increase in the population of wild boars is equally acute.

As you can see from his photos GRTimesthe issue is very serious, with productive growers seeing their crops literally destroyed and looking for a solution.

According to what was conveyed to GRTimes by the president of the Agricultural Association of Didymoteicho (ASD), Evangelos Tasioudis, the worm is said to be a larva – a lepidopteran of the Crambidae family. “However, for greater certainty, we have sent a sample to the Benakeio Phytopathological Institute and we are waiting for the results” notes the head of the ASD.

“The larva in question started from crops in the area of Tycheros and has subsequently spread to the entire Evros Regional Unit. The problem is very important and it is not easy to combat it except with spraying from a drone” adds Mr. Tasioudis.

The latter did not fail to mention the problem of the spectacular increase in the population of wild boars, which also invade the fields of the region, causing great destruction.

“I personally know producers who were afraid to grow corn this year because they know it is food for wild boars. Their population in recent years has increased spectacularly, as a result of which they look for their food in the farmers’ fields,” concludes the president of the Didymoteichos Agricultural Association to GRTimes.
