The fire brigade is fighting the flames and the fire front that is raging in Megalopolis of the Municipality of Arcadia and specifically in the Rutsi area.
However, the police took emergency traffic measures on the new highway Corinth – Tripoli – Kalamata at the junction Lefktro – Sparta. In particular, according to the police, for safety reasons, the movement of vehicles has been stopped in both traffic streams at the Lefktro-Sparti junction.
Car traffic to Sparta will take place on the old national roads Tripoli – Sparta and Kalamata – Sparta.
According to the fire brigade, the fire is in full progress in the ravine but does not threaten houses. Strong ground forces are still working to bring the fire under control, which is burning a forest area.
In particular, 40 firefighters with three groups of pedestrian departments and nine vehicles are operating at the scene, while until sunset, three firefighting planes assisted and two helicopters carried out water drops.
The work of the ground firefighting forces is assisted by self-administration water vehicles.
