The fire brigade are fighting the flames in the great fire in Megara in agroforestry area in Veniza Megaron underway amid strong winds.
A message via 112 was sent a while ago to the residents of the Papagianneika Megaron settlement for a precautionary evacuation from the area, while the Zachouli settlement was evacuated earlier.

“We have reports of damage to the houses in the Zahouli settlement,” he said in SKAI, the Deputy Regional Governor of Western Attica, Lefteris Kosmopoulos.
He added that so far there are no reports of trapped people, while he emphasized that the fire is very difficult as the wind makes extinguishing difficult. At the same time, he pointed out that the whole area is virgin forest.
“It’s not going well,” the Fire Department officers emphasize regarding the progress of the fire due to the difficulty in extinguishing it.
According to the same sources, the goal is not to reach fire in Alepochori.
As his journalist reports SKAIMichalis Tezaris located at the site, there are scattered houses while a house in the Zachouli area has already been given over to the flames and as residents of the area report, it threatens residential areas.
Citizens try to help the firefighters with tires and dry branches.
Thick smoke can be seen from a great distance while police forces have cordoned off the area and are searching the houses door-to-door in order to evacuate the residents. At the same time, an EKAV ambulance is also on standby in the area for precautionary reasons.
Fire Department vehicles have been lined up to prevent the fire from passing to the pine area, while some have been positioned around the perimeter of the fire.

According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out shortly before 2 in the afternoon while northerly winds of 4-7 Beaufort were blowing at the site.
The forces of the Fire Department are constantly being strengthened as at this time 95 firefighters with 3 groups of pedestrians, 34 vehicles, 7 aircraft and 7 helicopters, one of which is for aerial coordination, are operating, while volunteer firefighters and local water bodies provide assistance.
In addition, they have been made available by various services of G.A.D.A. 49 police officers with 25 vehicles who support the work of the fire brigade.

ELAS has proceeded with traffic regulations in Megara due to the fire that broke out in the Veniza area.
