Urgent prosecutorial investigation into the fires that occurred in the areas of Penteli, Anthousa, Geraka, Pallini, Drafi and Megara, from which thousands of acres of forest and agricultural land were destroyed, ordered the head of the Athens Appeals Prosecutor’s Office, Maria Gane.
The intervention of the prosecutor’s office was immediate and based on her order to the Head of the Athens Primary Prosecutor’s Office Sotiria Papageorgakopoulou, the cycle of the preliminary examination for the search for criminal responsibilities in each direction begins.
As part of the prosecutor’s investigation responsibilities will be sought for the performance of specific punishable acts, such as arsonforest fire and violation of the environmental protection law.
In the extensive prosecutorial investigation that begins, any evidence, information and lawsuit will be used to search for the causes that caused the specific fires.
Conducting the investigation will be assigned to public prosecutor who will take the evidence into account and will work closely with civil protection and fire service officials.
