In a teleconference with reporters, the Kremlin spokesman said that Russia remains “a very important and integral part of European energy security.”

With Moscow opening, even with the dropper, its faucet Nord Stream 1 today Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that all difficulties with the supply of Russian gas to Europe are caused by Western sanctions.

In a conference call with reporters, Peskov said Russia remains “a very important and integral part of European energy security.”

Amid concerns in Europe that Russia may further cut gas supplies to the continent, Peskov referred reporters to earlier comments by Vladimir Putin that Gazprom has fulfilled and will continue to fulfill its obligations to its customers.

Peskov also said that the sanctions imposed by the West on Russia for its actions in Ukraine do not they will force her to change course. “Even the toughest sanctions never made countries change their position,” he explained.

The Kremlin spokesman also referred to Britain, saying Moscow hopes the next UK prime minister will adopt a prudent stance towards Russia.

“We hope that the future prime minister of Great Britain will lean towards a more balanced rhetoric towards our country.”
