Inbound travel traffic in May 2022 stood at 2.205 million travelers, up 672.5% compared to the corresponding month of 2021 according to data from the Bank of Greece
Inbound travel traffic increased by 672% in May 2022 and by 552.9% the period January-May 2022 compared to the corresponding periods of 2021.
Compared to the corresponding periods of 2019, inbound travel fell by 7.6% in May 2022 and by 18.3% in the January-May 2022 period, according to data from the Bank of Greece.
In more detail, the incoming travel traffic the May 2022 formed in 2.205 million travelersincreased by 672.5% compared to the corresponding month of 2021.
In particular, travel traffic through airports increased by 818.1% compared to May 2021 and that through road border stations by 431.1%.
The increase in inbound travel came from a rise in travel from both EU-27 countries (by 547.6%) and non-EU-27 countries (by 996.5%). In more detail, the travel traffic from the countries of the euro zone amounted to 1.071 million travelers, increased by 609.1%.
Up 378.1% the travel traffic from the EU-27 countries outside the euro zone also showed, which amounted to 262.2 thousand travelers.
In the period January-May 2022, inbound travel traffic increased by 552.9% and amounted to 4.333 million travelerscompared to 663.8 thousand travelers in the corresponding period of 2021. In particular, travel traffic through airports increased by 797.9%, while that through road stations by 309.9%.
During the reviewed period, travel traffic from EU-27 countries amounted to 2,527.6 thousand travelers, showing an increase of 492.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2021, while travel traffic from non-EU countries -27 increased by 662.5% and amounted to 1,806.3 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 585.2%, while travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro area increased by 301.9%.
In the January-May 2022 period, travel receipts showed an increase of 547.9% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 and amounted to 2,508 billion. euro. This development is due to the increase in receipts from residents of EU-27 countries by 446.0%, which amounted to 1,414.5 million euros, as well as receipts from residents of non-EU-27 countries by 732.2 %, which amounted to 1,027.3 billion euros. In more detail, receipts from residents of the euro area countries amounted to 1.23 billion euros, increased by 477.6%, while receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries outside the euro area showed an increase of 295.4 % and amounted to 177.5 million euros.
