Difficult night in Dadia Evros: 4 fire fronts are raging

For the 4th consecutive day, the fire in Dadia Evros burns uncontrollably, with the front constantly changing depending on the direction of the wind.

Aerial vehicles are battling with water drops to contain the fire. At the same time, a message was sent from 112 to evacuate Dadia to Soufli.

Shortly after 4 pm the atmosphere became suffocating and those who were there were asked to move.

The fire also surrounded the Holy Monastery of Theotokos in Dadia, which was immediately evacuated. In the end, the fire did not enter the monastery, after a large operation set up by the authorities.

Now there are 4 fronts in Dadia. 32 firefighters are working at the scene, while it is expected to be another critical night. The military creates fire zones.

Adjustments on the field were decided, so as to deal with the difficult terrain of the area, where the fire in the National Park of Dadia has been raging since Thursday, July 21, as stated by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianides, from Dadia Evros.

Mr. Stylianides mentioned that they are in the process of opening new accesses, new fire zones, mainly on the southwest front of the fire which presents the greatest difficulty in access and management.

“The forces are fighting there, bulldozers are opening fire zones, the foresters have also entered, and the firefighters have set up and are running. We’ll be here all night. With the new fire brigade facilities and the new fire zones, we are slowly gaining ground. For three days now the fire has not been able to spread in such a difficult area – this is an indication of the work being done in the field”, noted Mr. Stylianides.
