Firefighters fought last night to keep the flames out of the village of Stavros, in the northeast of the island.
The night was also difficult in Lesbos due to the large fire that started on Saturday from the beach of Vatera.
Firefighters fought last night to keep the flames out of the village of Stavros, in the northeast of the island.
The village is no longer in danger as fire zones have been created, while it has been evacuated since early Sunday afternoon.
The village of Vrisa is also out of danger, which was also evacuated.
Enormous is the scale of the disaster, on the one hand because thousands of hectares were burned, on the other hand because the tourism product of the region was affected just before the beginning of August which is traditionally the best month for the region.
“We are in a much better situation,” Andreas Axis, deputy mayor of civil protection in Western Lesvos, told SKAI yesterday.
Mr. Axis pointed out that 4-5 houses were burned, 6 buildings were completely destroyed while over 20 suffered minor or major damage. The ecological destruction is incalculable.
According to lesvosnews, the area burned so far is close to 20,000 hectares.
The destruction in the olive grove of the area is also huge, with the olive producers in despair.
