The minister spoke of one difficult night with flare-ups in the fire in Dadia and underlined: “A great effort was made by everyone. With proper coordination, preventive organized evacuations of citizens were carried out, mainly people from vulnerable groups with respiratory problems. The movement was done very well and the residents are already in hotels” while he made it clear that this is a difficult battle”.
“It’s a battle to secure the future of this extraordinary ecosystem. After this difficult battle, experts will have to consider the issue of restoring the problems created by the fire. Above all, let’s think about the resilience of this ecosystem for the future”, noted Mr. Stylianides.

Warm thanks to all the officers from the Armed Forces and the police, the governor and deputy governors, the mayor, our volunteers and firefighters who made and continue to make a heroic effort, a superhuman effort, to save the forest, to ensure last night that the fire would not enter the village. We achieved it with superhuman efforts. Therefore, our firefighters need recognition. From all of us, because they are fighting a titanic battle in a very difficult area, with difficult terrain and with a very large amount of fuel that leads to flare-ups”, Mr. Stylianidis concluded.
