The Trump Group’s smartphone will probably be built in China, experts say, despite claims that the device will be manufactured in the US.

The company owned by US President Donald Trump announced on Monday the T1, a gold -color device, which, he said, will cost the retail $ 499. The smartphone will run Google’s Android operating system.

The Trub Group says the phone will be “built in the United States” – but experts note that the phone was probably designed and built by a Chinese company.

“There is no way the phone was designed from scratch and there is no way to be assembled in the US or fully manufactured in the US,” Francisco Jeronimo, Vice President of International Data Corporation, told CNBC. “This is completely impossible.”

Jeronimo argued that the phone would probably be produced by an initial Chinese device manufacturer (ODM) – a kind of company that designs and manufactures products based on another company specifications.

“Although advertised as an American -made phone, it is likely that this device will be initially produced by a Chinese ODM,” said Blake Przesmicki, a Counterpoint Research analyst, in a note on Monday.

Jeff Fieldhack, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, added that “the US does not immediately have local construction capabilities available”.

The construction of a smartphone came to the forefront after Trub’s threat of tariffs on the US -imported devices.

Many experts have noted that the construction of iPhone in the US would be almost impossible and would certainly increase the price of the product. In addition, the launch of large -scale construction in the US would take several years.

The phone will need foreign accessories

Even if some device was made in the US, smartphones supply chains are global and the device’s components come from various countries.

Trump’s T1 is no different. While no information about specific components have been revealed, the specifications could give an idea of what to expect.

The device will feature a 6.8 -inch AMOLED display, a type of screen made mainly by the Samsung South Korean company. LG, another South Korean company, also produces the screen, as is the Chinese company BOE.

For comparison, Apple’s top iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9 -inch display and its price starts at $ 1,199.

At the price of $ 499, the smartphone will probably use a processor by the Taiwanese company MediaTk, which will be manufactured in Taiwan. If the device contained a Qualcomm chip instead, this would probably also have to be manufactured in Taiwan.

The 50 Megapixel Advertised camera will require in the meantime image detection chips – a market dominated by the Japanese company Sony for smartphones. There are also smaller players in China and elsewhere.

The memory of the device is an area that could use American technology, possibly by Micron, which manufactures its components in the US.

“Even when local construction is available, the company should be based on components imported from countries outside the US,” said Fieldhack of Counterpoint Research.
