Conophytum pageae is a genus of South African and Namibian succulent plants in the family Aizoaceae. The name comes from the Latin conus (cone) and the Greek phytum (plant). The plants are also known as knopies (Afrikaans for buttons), waterblasies (Afrikaans for water blisters), sphaeroids, conos, cone plants, dumplings or button plants.
To the naked eye the epidermis is from very smooth to slightly rough to hairy, depending on the shape and structure of the microscopic epidermal cells. Conophytum plants are mainly sold to collectors in Asian countries, where there is a high demand.
Several species of Conophytum occur in cultivation. In temperate regions, they are best grown in a protected environment, as they cannot withstand temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.
