Niki Kerameos: On September 12 the first school bell

by

The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, stated that “on Monday, September 12, schools open with the healthiest balance of human resources in recent decades.”

Niki Kerameos spoke about the bases for admission to higher education, which “were announced earlier this year than any other year, something for which we were preparing for 1.5 years at the ministry”.

In an interview with ANT1, the Minister of Education also spoke about the public IEKs, which she said have been upgraded a lot and for which “we will provide another 10,000 places, for registration in the public IEKs in September.

There are majors there such as the web development major that is in high demand. You can go to a public IEK, get the certification and in 2 years go out on the job market and be in demand”.

“We care that our children have many options: you want to go to universities, you want to go to the public IEK, the point is that they have options. It is indicative that 1 in 4 who submitted an application for a public IEK, applied for a different region than the one in which they live”, said Ms. Kerameos, mentioning that if one looks at the professional rehabilitation prospects, the public IEK may provide a significant way out for dozens thousands of children.

Monday, September 12, schools open

Regarding the next school year, the Minister of Education said that “on Monday, September 12, schools open with the healthiest balance of human resources in recent decades. For 12 years not a single teacher had been appointed, while 3,000 left one year, 4,000 the next, 5,000 the next. Under our government, 25,000 teachers were permanently appointed. This year, the planning for the filling of vacancies by substitutes has been done much earlier.”

“Full-day school will now end at 5:30 p.m., in 50% of the country’s all-day classes, instead of 4:00 p.m. There is an upgraded program at the full-day school for the children and at the same time support is offered to the working parent, as the school hours coincide with their working hours.

Mrs. Kerameos also said that there is an upgrade at all levels of education, mentioning, among other things, that in the Lyceum there is optional teaching, supplementary to the courses that are considered in the Panhellenic and that in kindergartens all over the country there is also an English lesson, so that the children from the age of 4 to begin to acquire useful supplies.
