Circuit of illegal Hellenizations: Involvement of 34 police officers and criminals -30.000 € for a new name

A large circuit of corruption that operated for the last 8-9 years in the bowels of the Hellenic Police came to light from the publicity of the Internal Affairs Service. Behind the case are hidden hundreds of Greekizations of foreigners and in fact most of the cases of marked criminals with aggravated criminal past

The case involves:

An official commander of the Security Department of West Attica who is said to be the head of the circuit, 8 low-ranking police officers, retired police officers, a civil servant, a registrar, a lawyer, notaries and local government officials and 8 citizens.

In total, according to the investigations so far, in the criminal organization there is evidence that 34 police officers are involved and so far 10 have been arrested.

At the same time, 600,000 euros have been confiscated so far and the money that the specific circuit seems to have received from April 26, 2013 until November 30, 2021 seems to exceed € 5,000,000.00.

How the circuit worked

The circuit caught data of repatriated Greeks from former USSR countries, or with false declarations of loss of identity of existing persons issued fake ID cards to any interested foreign immigrant. With this ID they could get a passport, move to Schengen countries, get a driver’s license, AMKA as well as a work permit.

So far, it seems that such identification certificates have been issued to about 3,000 foreign immigrants, mainly from Albania, according to competent sources, including many criminals. In fact, they paid up to 30,000 for their identity in order to “wash” their name, change their identity and escape from their troubled past.

According to valid information, in addition to the arrests that have been made, 320,000 euros were found in the safe of the commander of the Security Department in West Attica, who is considered one of the key executives of the circuit.

The police officers who broke into his office yesterday pressed him to show it to them and opened it with a wheel, as he claimed that he did not remember the combination, while for the amount he claimed that it was his relative and he had it there for safety.

EL.AS executives in the presence of 11 prosecutors proceeded with resident investigations.

The departments that have been at the center of the research for a year and a half are in the following areas:

• Aspropyrgos
• Kalithea
• Concord
• Glyfada
• Boeotia

It is noted that in the context of the investigations, movements, meetings and contacts and telephone conversations of the persons involved have been videotaped.

The Minister of Citizen Protection Panagiotis Theodorikakos went this morning to the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces. There for 2.5 hours, the Minister was informed by Commander Lieutenant General Elias Kossyvakis about the progress of the investigations regarding the circuit of illegal Hellenizations with the illegal issuance of IDs and passports in which police officers are also involved.

The Minister demanded that the investigation into the circuit of illegal Hellenizations be completed and that all those involved be brought to justice.

The statement of the Minister of Civil Protection Takis Theodorikakos in detail:

“After many months of investigation, the Internal Affairs Service informed me about the dismantling of a criminal organization with the participation of unfortunately corrupt police officers.

From the first moment that the Prime Minister entrusted me with this crucial Ministry, I called for transparency and the fight against corruption.

In order for the Police to gain the trust of the society, it must first obey the laws. Citizens demand security. They want the policeman near them, to protect them and not to make them illegal.

There will be no leniency towards anyone who breaks his oath. We support with all our strength the police officers on duty, who work hard and consciously for the security of our citizens and our homeland.

And these are the vast majority of Greek police officers.

We are facing police officers, who are proving to be epic. I asked the head of the Home Affairs Service for the investigation to be completed and for all those involved to be accountable to justice.

Only in this way, the citizens will feel that EL.AS. operates transparently and effectively against crime wherever it is, for the good of our citizens and our Republic.

Piles of offenses are included in the criminal prosecution brought by the Prosecutor against those arrested as members of a circuit

Based on the voluminous case file formed by the police of the Directorate of Internal Affairs, the criminal prosecution against the arrested includes offenses mainly of a criminal nature, while those involved in the case other than the police are local government officials, lawyers and individuals.

The prosecution brought on a case-by-case basis concerns the offenses of criminal organization, criminal organization management, bribery of an employee for acting contrary to his duties professionally and continuously, bribery of an employee for acting contrary to his duties jointly and continuously alone, false testimony, facilitating the exit from Greek territory of a citizen jointly and consecutively by perpetrators who acted for the purpose of speculation and professionally, facilitating the illegal residence of third-country nationals by complicating police investigations into arrest, arrest and detention drugs (purchase and possession), synergy in a false certificate, synergy in facilitating the exit from Greek territory of a third country citizen and synergy in facilitating the illegal residence of third country nationals.

In addition, some of the accused are charged with false reporting, breach of confidentiality, forgery or not, supply and possession of drugs, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and false certificate.

The case will be handled by an Investigator.
