“My mother was afraid. She worked two jobs to support her children, as well as him. My father spent all his money. They often fought. Both my brother and I had intervened many times. Even hitting him to leave,” said the 19-year-old
THE Manolis Bekirai, the son of the 40-year-old woman who was murdered by her husband in Zakynthos, stares at his father. The 49-year-old with his head bowed comes out of the Zakynthos Courthouse with handcuffs, handcuffs. He is not over 1.60 and only 55 kg. And yet this man, a builder by trade, brutally abused the wife and mother of three children of the age of 19, 14 and 8 years.
Manolis speaks to the newspaper “Peloponnese” and it signifies something that surpasses all human thought. His father, after the murder, called him, and he asked him if his mother was alive or dead. So cynical.
During the introduction of the spouseicide there was tension. Police officers chose to put him in the Mansion through a side door. So those who had gathered there, some neighbors, women with placards against femicide, but also his son, did not see him. Manolis reacted. He messed with the cops: “I wanted to see him. I wouldn’t do anything, I wanted to see him. To look him in the eyes and tell him that my 8-year-old sister was crying yesterday and asking me for our mother.”
Finally, the exit was through the front door. And indeed the 19-year-old did nothing. She just looked him in the eye with anger.
The 19-year-old spoke about what they were experiencing at home in Tsilivi: “My mother was afraid. She worked two jobs to support her children, as well as him. My father spent all his money. They often fought. Both my brother and I had intervened many times. Even beating him to leave. But he there. Even when she sued him a month ago, he begged to turn back. Then he was released and there were restrictive conditions not to go near my mother. But he came and begged her to stay at home until he found another place. And my mother, thinking of us and being afraid, accepted it. Despite the wood he had eaten from his own hands».
He described what happened on the day of his mother’s murder. “He came home drunk, I was away. He beat my mother a lot. My mother went to the police and sued him again. And the policemen let her go and she left. They didn’t even arrange a patrol car to bring her home. To check, to see what is happening. They left her helpless. And my father found her sitting on the steps of the house and killed her.”
Crime in Tsilivi is still shocking. Eleonora is dead. He will be buried in Albania. She fell covered in blood in the yard of her house, from the hands of the father of her children.
