Large area crops have been damaged of corn in the region of Kryas and Lapsistas, in Ioannina, from wild boar raids.

The issue is highlighted by the TOEB of the region, which discussed it extensively at the last meeting of its Board of Directors.

THE TOEB addresses with a letter to the Regional Governor exposing the problems and asking for his intervention to deal with them.

“Innumerable herds of wild boars are not going to leave anything standing until harvest time, since every night they literally thresh the plain, breaking the plants in their path and eating the ears that have not yet reached harvest time,” the letter states. .

The farmers and livestock producers who are left are in a desperate situation seeing new and greater disasters being caused day by day without being able to do anything to prevent this situation.

TOEB also notes that even areas that are not cultivated such as the pastures have been dug up by herds of wild boars destroying the flora.

The issue of road safety is also raised, as herds, especially at night, pose a danger to drivers.

“We appeal to every competent body in order to take cognizance of this issue and to take measures such as the start of the hunting season, the declaration of wild boars, immediate compensation from ELGA for the disasters” is pointed out in the TOEB document.
