The landscape of vehicle electrification is changing rapidly as both technology and interest evolve. In the US, sales of electric vehicles have grown by more than 40 percent annually since 2016.
By 2035, the largest auto markets will be fully electric—providing both a glimpse of a green future and significant economic opportunities. Electric vehicles now include cars, buses, trucks of all sizes, and even tractors that are at least partially powered by electricity.
In this context, the legendary American brand Jeep® is in the process of fully electrifying its range in Europe, after the recent presentation of the new e-Hybrid hybrid system, as well as its first purely electric model. The new electrified Jeeps continue without compromise the brand’s tradition of offering robust and highly reliable SUVs, an element that is also sealed by the 4-year factory warranty with a validity of up to 160,000 km. which comes with all Jeep 4xe and e–Hybrid hybrids.
Jeep® already has electrified versions for all its passenger models available in Europe, while the presence of the innovative Plug-in Hybrid 4xe four-wheel drive system was recently complemented by the 48V e-Hybrid system.
Jeep®’s global goal by 2025 is for its electrified cars to account for 70% of its total sales. Given the brand’s association with 4×4 vehicles, it started with the Plug-in Hybrid 4xe system, which offers the most efficient, environmentally friendly, yet capable off-road Jeep® ever built. Already in 2021, almost a third of Jeep® sales in Europe were for the 4xe versions, while the percentage in the case of the Wrangler approaches 70%. “At this turning point in Jeep’s history, it is clear our intention to continue with a steady step towards the goal of 100% electric freedom.” said Antonella Bruno, Head of Jeep® in Europe.
The entire range of the brand’s passenger models, including the legendary Wrangler, are available with the Plug-in Hybrid 4xe system, which also offers the possibility of driving purely electrically for distances that, depending on the conditions, exceed 50 km, covering most daily transportation needs at the urban level.
The successful course of the Jeep® 4xe is now supported by the new 48V hybrid system that powers the Renegade and Compass. Jeep® for the first time in a hybrid system in the category offers purely electric drive functions, with the 15 kW (20 hp) electric motor that supplies the two models having the ability to move them without the use of the thermal engine in high traffic conditions/ low speeds, where the electric motor has a clear performance advantage over the thermal one. The result is that the Renagade and Compass e-Hybrid with the new Turbo 1.5 liter petrol engine offer high performance, comfort, low noise, the possibility of purely electric drive, but also fuel consumption equivalent to that of a diesel car. The e-Hybrid is ideal for use in cars with two-wheel drive, while despite the possibilities of electrification it is more affordable than the Full Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid systems.
The hybrids Jeep Renegade e-Hybrid and Compass e-Hybrid, the four-wheel drive Plug-in Hybrid Renegade 4xe, Compass 4xe and Wrangler 4xe are immediately available on the Greek market, while the new Grand Cherokee 4xe will follow within the year. In 2023, the brand’s first purely electric model will also be available. All of them offer free access to the ring road, while depending on the model and version, they are exempted from the payment of road tolls and the payment of company car use tax.
